If you are planning a concert for either your own band or one you manage, there are a few things you need to know about making it a success. Concert production is more than just having the right lighting and sound system, it's also making sure you are marketing the concert and promoting it and the venue itself.
In order to make your concert a success, here are a few things you should know about concert production.
Make It An Event
Many concerts do the same thing and only offer the music performance to their audience. While many people will head to the venue early to get to their seats, there usually isn't much to do to entertain them while they wait for the concert to begin.
One part of concert production that can make it successful is to create an event for your audience. Instead of only showcasing the performance, make it an entire experience. This means you can have interactive displays, the concert could be to help benefit a cause the band is passionate about, or that can benefit the area that the concert is in.
You could have not only merchandise for sale, but meet and greets with the band, food trucks so your audience can snack while they wait, or even offer a tailgate party an hour or two before the concert. This can create a memorable experience and can create new fans who will keep coming back to your concerts.
Pick The Right Venue And Time For The Concert
Another important aspect of concert production is picking not only the right location and venue but the right time and date for it, too. Think about who your target audience is. Are they younger people or kids? Are they older or young adults? This is important in deciding the right venue and location to ensure that your target audience can attend the concert. If you pick a nightclub with a great sound system, but your concert is geared toward teenagers, your concert won't be a success because they won't be allowed to attend.
Also, deciding on the right date and time is important for successful concert production. It needs to be when your audience is free to attend. This could be on holidays or weekends during the majority of the year, or some weeknights for the summer months. This can take careful planning and a bit of research into when the right time and venue is for your concert.
